The Fisher Theatre is presenting “Christmas Wonderland, a Holiday Spectacular” for a limited nine-performance engagement. The show is a song and dance bonanza of holiday standards and dazzling choreography. Santa is along to MC and help rev up the audience.
More than likely, one of your holiday favorites is among the forty-plus songs featured either in their entirety or in medley. You may also discover a few almost-holiday songs in the show. The night of this review, the program featured a fine interpretation of Lenard Cohen’s “Halleluiah”.
The songlist, it appears, may vary from show to show as several songs listed in the program were replaced by others, and the order in which the songs were sung also differed from the program. A half-dozen singers deliver strong vocals, though everybody gets to sing, including the 13 female and 6 male high-stepping dancers.
The costumes, of which there are a significant number of changes, are spectacular. The show features a variety of floor-to-ceiling festive sets around which the production numbers are built. They include an Alpine Village, Santa’s Workshop, Rockefeller Center, Candy Land, and Winter Wonderland. A special treat comes by way of a pair of figure skaters who perform routines onstage on Fisher Theatre “ice” in each of the show’s two acts.
“Christmas Wonderland, a Holiday Spectacular”, is a show for the entire family. It runs through December 17th. Tickets can be purchased at all Ticketmaster locations, by phone at 1.800.982.2787 and online at www.BroadwayinDetroit.com or www.Ticketmaster.com.
